What are smart settings?

Choose how you want to pay with Zilch with smart settings

Updated this week

Smart settings are the new and improved version of what used to be called your default purchase setting. We’ve made things simpler and smarter, so if you forget to enable your card before you shop, we use the payment option you prefer.

With smart settings, you can choose:

  • Pay now

  • Pay over 6 weeks (minimum spend £10)

  • Pay over 3 months (minimum spend £75)

You can update your smart settings any time in the Zilch app.

How do smart settings work?

If you make a purchase without enabling your card in the app first, such as when you Tap and Pay on the go, we will use your smart settings to decide how the payment goes through.

If your purchase goes through as Pay over 6 weeks, the fee is:

  • £3–£3.50 for purchases up to £75

  • £4–£4.50 for purchases over £75

Pay now has no fees, and you will earn up to 0.5% Rewards.

Can I change my smart settings?

Yes, you can update your smart settings whenever you like:

  1. Open the Zilch app

  2. Go to My account

  3. Tap Smart settings

  4. Choose how you want to pay

You can also choose the minimum amount for when Pay over 3 months should kick in. Subject to eligibility.

Anything else I should know?

You will always get lower fees and higher Rewards if you enable your card in the app before you shop. We list thousands of stores, and when you enable your card, we check how you want to pay so you can pick the best option for every purchase.
