What is Section 75 purchase protection?

Learn about Section 75 protection on eligible Zilch purchases

Section 75 is a legal protection under the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

Section 75 may help you get your money back if something goes wrong with an eligible purchase.

Which Zilch purchases are covered by Section 75?

Section 75 may apply to purchases made using Pay over 6 weeks or Pay over 3 months where the cash price of the item or service is between £100 and £30,000.

When can I make a Section 75 claim?

You may be able to make a Section 75 claim if:

  • The item is faulty

  • The service you paid for was not provided

  • The item or service is not as described

  • The seller has breached their contract with you

You may still be able to make a Section 75 claim even if the seller is no longer trading.

How do I make a Section 75 claim?

To tell us you'd like to make a Section 75 claim:

  1. Open the Zilch app.

  2. Go to Purchases.

  3. Select the purchase.

  4. Tap Get help with this purchase.

  5. Tap Dispute.

We'll ask you to provide:

  • Proof of purchase, such as an order confirmation, invoice or receipt

  • Messages or emails between you and the seller about the issue

  • Any contracts or agreements related to the purchase

We'll review your Section 75 claim using the information you provide.

Each Section 75 claim is assessed individually.

What happens after I make a Section 75 claim?

If your Section 75 claim is successful, we'll explain the outcome and any refund you're entitled to receive.

If Section 75 does not apply, you may still be able to raise a chargeback, depending on the circumstances of your purchase.

If you only paid part of the purchase using Zilch, Section 75 may still apply.

When does Section 75 not apply?

Section 75 does not cover:

  • Purchases made using Pay now

  • Purchases made on behalf of someone else, such as a service contract in another person's name

  • Purchases made using PayPal

Why might Section 75 not apply to some purchases?

Section 75 generally requires a direct relationship between you, the credit provider and the seller.

This means Section 75 may not apply when a third party sits between you and the seller.

Examples include:

  • A Ryanair flight booked through Expedia

  • An Apple product purchased through Amazon rather than directly from Apple

  • Purchases made through eBay
