When you sign up to Zilch, we'll ask you to share proof of ID along with a selfie. This is so we can be sure it's definitely you opening an account and not a fraudster trying to open an account using your details.
What proof of ID can I use?
We need a photographic ID to verify your identity, this can be:
A valid passport
A driving licence or provisional licence (both sides)
A CitizenCard with a holographic PASS logo (both sides)
UK birth certificate
Non-UK National ID (both sides)
Want to use your UK birth certificate? You'll need to select the Passport option. Our secure partner Onfido, which we use to verify your ID, looks for photo ID by default, so it might take a few tries for the system to accept the birth certificate. If that happens, just re-upload the document until it goes through.
What proof of address can I use?
You can use the following as proof of address β you can't use the same document for both proof of ID and address:
Utility or telephone bill
Bank/credit card statement
Council tax bill
Tenancy agreement
Your proof of address must show:
Your name
Your address
The name of the company/bank/council that sent it
An issue date within the last 3 months
I don't have physical proof of address
If you don't receive a paper copy of any of the above, please get in touch with the company or supplier and request a hard copy of the relevant document. Unfortunately, we can't accept screenshots of PDFs or documents you printed yourself at home.
Tips for Preparing Your Documents
Ensure the document is in date.
Take a well-lit, non-blurry photo (turn off flash if it causes glare).
Make sure all text is clearly readable.
Include all four corners of the document in the frame.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
If the Onfido prompt does not appear, ensure your app is updated to the latest version.
Double-check that your documents meet the preparation guidelines listed above.
What Happens During Verification?
Your account will remain temporarily restricted while your ID is being reviewed.
